I'm thinking of making a skirt out of some 4-way stretch, and putting a zipper in it, vertically. I know that if not sewn right, the zipper will bobble and not look good. Any tips for avoiding that? I'm thinking that some kind of stabilizer is needed.
So I've lurked around here and other j-fashion communites for the past couple of months and I frgured I'd jump into things :3
( su nervous >__< )
I just got a Brother XL-3750 for Christmas. It's the first sewing machine I've ever owned, and I have seriously no experience with them. Over the last couple of days I've been trying to practice basic straight stitches, and keep running into the same problem. The lower thread ALWAYS becomes a tangled mess on the fabric. I've tried everything I can think of. I've rewound the bobbin at least a bazillion times, I've re-threaded the entire thing, I've changed bobbins several times...and still, nothing is working. I've read the manual over and over again, so I'm certain that I'm winding the bobbin correctly. And I always make sure when loading the bobbin that there isn't any tangled thread in the bobbin case.
So my question to you much more experienced sewers is, is there something I'm missing? Should I just keep trying to correct the tension? Is there some magic trick to this that I just can't get? I've read in reviews that thread tension is pretty common problem with this machine, so I'm tempted to return the thing and get another (Brother XR-7700 is the one I've had my eye on for some time now). Should I just do that? I'm getting really frustrated here, because I've been pining after a sewing machine for months, and now that I finally have one, it doesn't seem to work :(

So a long time ago, ( my aunt gave me this prom dress.... )
It's in very good shape. There are a few tiny tears at the hem where once upon a time my cat decided that he was going to sit in the closet and chew on hanging things (don't get me started). It hasn't yellowed as much as i thought it has, which is good.
So...how could I freshen this up? It smells a bit musty from being wrapped up in plastic in my closet, and I'd like to maybe see if I could get the color a little brighter (although that really isn't a huge deal if I can't).
I want to avoid bleach, as I think it might turn out rather badly. I'm considering tossing it in the gentle cycle with some vinegar, maybe some baking soda (not sure which).
Do you all think this would work or is there something better for it that I've not heard of?
Wanna see some pictures of my wackiest sewing project yet?

Oh hi there! Don't mind me too much, I was just fiddling around with some things here at home when I thought to myself, oh dear, it seems we only have two entries for word challenge #4.
I know December is a busy holiday month, but there are a few days left people! Lets get some submissions in! I want written work AND art work. I'm counting on all of you to make this New Years as KakaSaku as ever!
Also just for the fun of things, I'm extending the deadline until Friday morning, so lets get them in before then!
Because lets face it, for the older crowd, we're hopefully gonna be a little punch drunk on the 1st.

I've never added a lining to a garment before and could use some pointers.
I want to line a pair of wool pants that I am currently working on. When I'm cutting out the lining, should I make it the exact size and shape of the outer layer (without pockets and other details)? Or do I need to modify it in any way? I know I will want to hem it a tiny bit shorter, and I won't cut a waistband. I am planning on attaching the lining to the waistband facing, and slipstiching it to the back zipper, which the directions say to do for the facing. Does that sound about right?
If it makes a difference, I'm making view A of this pattern.

Summary: The math was simple: Him plus Her equaled genius. It's really a pity he forgot to mention it.
In this chapter: Rumors are put to rest and come to life.
On Fanfic.net Normally I have an LJ link too, but it's not letting me do a cut.
I hope some of you are working on that New Year's prompt. I want some stories! :)
So I recently found out how to upload photos to LJ (yes, I'm slow) AND how to make macros, so I thought I'd share my crappy first attempt xD
( forgive me Father, for I have FAILED )
I got a new (used) sewing machine for christmas. The problem is, it did not come with the manual. I am trying to find the manual to purchase online, but I don't know what specific machine I have. It says Husqvarna Viking, and then on the gold thing on the bottom right it says "300" and on the top left it says "Embroidery".
I've tried googling endlessly and I'm only finding the model "Scandinavia" that has 300 along with it but it doesn't look like my machine. Halp??!
here is what it looks like: http://photos-c.ak.fbcdn.net/hphoto
Hey everyone. I found this community and joined livejournal just to hopefully connect with some people in this community. What I am looking for are potential j-rock musicians in the Chicago area to form a band and start jammin. No crying and no drama, just a good time with others who understand how much j-rock can knock their socks off!
A little about me: I am 22 years old and have been involved with music for 15 years. I have sung j-rock on stage before in front of a crowd of about 200. I love a wide variety of j-rock, ranging from the more pop-y songs to the heavy screamo stuff, and everything in between.
If you are interested feel free to shoot me a message. Let me know a little about yourself, including instrument, experience, and influences. And then we'll get everyone together and see how our sounds gel. And who knows where we'll be able to go from there!
Lets rock soon~
Hey im new but been following this community for a while now. any one know were i can find a fitted hoodie pattern? size small (girls), maybe one i can download? or free online somewhere?

The holidays drained me, as well as my bank account, so I must part with some very rare, musical collectibles. Check them out here:

I am absolutely not kidding when I write that these are very rare items.

I just recieved a sewing machine after following this community and getting many great ideas of what to do with it. However in playing around with it, I popped the bobbin case out with the bobbin, and now can't get it back in. I've already tried the instruction manual and google, neither of which helped (bad descriptions, or ones that didn't work).
Does anyone know how to insert the bobbin case on a singer 4228?
Edit: I just got it !! (two days and much frustration later) For anyone in the future, there is a black metal plate on the right....the bobbin case rests on TOP of this, don't try to go under it!!
Thanks for the help!
